Limited Scope Representation: Expanding Access to Legal Services.
In May of 2019, the Tax Court announced that it adopted procedures to permit practitioners to enter a limited appearance at scheduled trial sessions. The procedures recently took effect at the beginning of the 2019 Fall Term. This panel will discuss the rules regarding the Tax Court’s new procedure as well as compare and contrast those rules and similar rules in other jurisdictions. This panel will also address the practical considerations and implications of representing a taxpayer under a limited scope appearance.
